On 3 November 2014, the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2014 Autumn Imperial Decorations.  Among 57 foreign recipients is Mr. Kong Vorn, Head of board of directors, Cambodia-Japan Friendship Middle and High Schooland Director of Cambodia Education Assistance Fund (CEAF), who will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in recognition of his significant contributions to the development of Japanese language education in Cambodia and the enhancement of mutual understanding between Japan and Cambodia.

2014年11月3日、日本政府は秋の勲章外国人受賞者の発表をしました。57人の外国人受賞者のうちの一人コン・ボーン氏は、カンボジア-日本友好学園中高一貫校理事長およびカンボジア教育支援基金代表で、カンボジアにおける日本語教育の普及および相互理解の促進に寄与したとされ勲章を授けられました。

Mr. Kong Vorn worked for Japanese media in Cambodia from 1970 to 1975. After experiencing forced labor for nearly 4 years during the Khmer Rouge era, he moved to Japan and settled there as a political refugee in 1981. He founded “Cambodia Education Assistance Fund (CEAF)in 1993 and started serving as Director of the Fond, through which he built 5 schools in Cambodia. He made great achievements in the improvement of educational system in Cambodia through introducing Japanese school systems and Japanese language education, and enhancement of the reputation of Japan and Japanese educational system in Cambodia as well.

コン・ボーン氏は、1970年~1975年までカンボジアの日本の報道機関で働く。 クメールルージュ時代のほぼ4年間強制労働させられた後、1981年日本に政治亡命。

1993年、カンボジア教育支援基金(CEAF)設立し、5つの学校をカンボジアに建設。日本の学校組織と日本語教育を導入し、カンボジアにおける教育制度の改善に寄与。

In 1999, Mr. Kong Vorn built theCambodia-Japan Friendship Middle and High School in PreyVeng Province and started serving as Head of board of directors of the School. He invited volunteer teachers of Japanese language from Japan and made a tremendous contribution in promotingJapanese language study in the Province. The School is the only school in Cambodia which has Japanese language classes at the middle and high school level and has been producing many Japanese speakers every year.

1999年、コン・ボーン氏はプレイベン州にカンボジア-日本友好学園を創立し理事長となる。日本から日本語のボランティア教師を招き、日本語教育において貢献。学校には、日本語の授業があり、毎年多くの日本語を話せる学生を輩出。

Mr. Kong Vorn highly appreciates the Japanese educational system and introduced it to the school education of the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Middle and High School. He enhanced the respect among Cambodian people toward Japan and Japanese people and the reputation of the Japanese educational system in Cambodia through such activities.

コン・ボーン氏は、日本の教育制度を高く評価し、日本の教育システムをカンボジア-日本友好学園中高一貫校に導入。 彼は、そのような活動を通してカンボジアや日本の多くの人々から尊敬を得る。

Mr. Kong Vorn also conducted many exchange programs of youths between Japan and Cambodia and played a leading role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.

コン・ボーン氏はまた多くの日本とカンボジアの若者交流を行い、2カ国間の相互理解と友好を進めることで主要な役割を果たす。

Mr. Kong Vorn worked for the Japanese Media between 1970 and 1975 and made prompt and accurate reports of the Indo-china situation at that time for Japanese people. He also published a book regarding his own experiences during the Khmer Rouge and aftermath through which he made a significant contribution in promoting the study of the modern history of Cambodia among Japanese historians and researchers.

コン・ボーン氏は1970~1975年に日本の報道機関で働き、日本人のためにインドシナ情勢の迅速で正確な情報を伝えてきた。また、クメールルージュ時代の経験を出版し、日本の歴史家や研究者がカンボジアの近代史の研究をする際に重要な貢献を果たす。
